12th Dec- Makan at the Lagenda Restaurant, Holiday Villa, London with Alden and Fiona. Alden won two vouchers and subsidized us.

13th Dec- Joanne's birthday at the Bugis Street Restaurant, Gloucester Rd, London

15th Dec- Christmas dinner with the Audio Business Group at the Cafe Piccolo.

16th Dec-Atkins Christmas dinner at Captain Cabin, near Piccadily Circus, London.
Had a great time socializing and 'entertaining' ourselves with the pub quiz, secret santa and food:)

17th Dec- Christmas lunch with the SUK demand planners from all business groups at the company's restaurant.

18th Dec- Christmas dinner with the SUK supply chain team at Chobam.

19th Dec- Christmas Concert at the Weybridge Methodist Church.

21st Dec- Sunday morning service and evening Carol Service. I was assigned to read Lesson Four, taken from Isaiah 11.

22nd Dec-Secret Santa with the Audio Business Group. Hmm..I wonder who was my Secret Santa.

23rd Dec-Christmas dinner with YP, C & W at The Warrington, London

24th Dec- Edinburgh, here I come....

Personally, this year 2008 is the year which I had the most Christmas meals in my entire life. Ironically, Christmas in Europe makes me feel that it is time for eating and gathering with 'families', colleagues and friends. It is also a time for exchanging presents.I also reckon that this year I've received the most Christmas presents since a long time, thanks to the Secret Santa tradition. Nonetheless, it is also a time for giving and sharing...Personally, to me sharing the time and enjoying the moments with friends and close ones are more meaningful during this holiday season.

I wonder how would my Christmas gonna be?

A Sunday Korean lunch

Today, after church as I was walking home with Stone, we chatted about plans for Christmas and out of the blue, he just blurted out an invitation to his home for lunch. After making a phone call to his wife, we were heading to his home.

I accepted his invitation as I would like to visit his two very cute little girls. Also, because I heard that his wife had a headache. Hence, I thought, it would be nice to pay them a visit.

We did had a great time together, playing with his "babies", chatting with his cousin, Han Jin, who dropped by after his two months Europe tour and Eun Jin, his tenant. His wife cooked some very delicious Korean dishes, including "kim chi". It was an interesting discovery about the Korean chopsticks. I came to know yesterday through Joanne's birthday at the Bugis Street Restaurant at Gloucester Road that the chopsticks for the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans differ. The Japanese chopsticks are sharper and pointed while the Chinese are thicker and round. Having travelled to Japan and China, that doesn't come as a surprise. However, the Korean chopsticks do actually left me in awe. They are actually square! I also came to know that each of these designs serve different functions.

The Chinese tends to 'scoop slowly' with their chopsticks while the Koreans and Japanese puts the food in their mouth 'abruptly'. Well, that were the interpretations I've got from Joanne. Whether it is a coincidence or a fact, I do agree to a certain extend.

After a nice cup of Korean coffee, although Stone and his cousin tried to convince me to play badminton outdoor, I politely declined due to the cold wheather. His wife finally suggested that we played an indoor game. I can't really remember the name of the game but it is relative to Scrabble but instead of using alphabets, we used a tile of numbers. Apparently it is a game played by the Israelites to promote IQ. I must admit that it was intelletual. Creativity, strategy and constant thinking are needed to win the game. As time past so quickly, it was time for me to leave. Stone and EJ walked me to the door of their house.I went strolling home, with a smile on my face.

As I walked, I reflected. Being a passionate person, I can't help thinking how the time spent with this lovely family has actually affected me. There I was, sitting side by side with some Koreans having meals, playing and laughing together. I am glad, really glad that I know Stone and his family. Warmth filled my heart. Also, I felt that life is just too short not appreciating people's presence. My view: Live the moment and appreciate the people around you!-no matter what...

3-in-1

22nd Nov 2008.

I thought I might as well mark this day in my blog. It was the weekend when one of my ex-coursemates came down all the way from Mexico. I wanted to organize a pizza party on the weekends after my birthday. However, I've decided to postpone it to the following weekend. Well, you may say that I'd use it as an 'excuse' to gather some people, especially since E, came all the way from Mexico. J came from Hundersfield while B came from Scotland.Or you may say it as a welcoming party for E. This day also coincided with A's birthday gathering. Hence, A actually suggested that we combine our celebrations together. We thought that it would be kinda cool combining his friends and mine and thus in a way widen our social circle. So, we met at a Pakistan cross Indian restaurant near the White Chapel Road. B, J, E, J and F are my friends who came while A invited J,P,O and W. After lunch we headed to P's comfy place for tea although E,F and J left for Harrods instead.


I must say that I had a great time. It was a very intellectual yet relaxing chat with the bunch of A's mates-mostly consultants. To my surprise, I really enjoyed talking and hanging out with them. We chatted on the topics such as olympics (well, most of them are consultants for the coming 2012 Olympics projects), Sudan (O would be posted to Sudan to work as an engineer in a maternity hospital), immigration (rules and different viewpoints), Cambridge coursemates and lots more. I was also impressed by J who apparently was the Gates scholar(yes-Bill GATES fund!). She did appear to be pretty witty and presentable,for whom I truly admire.

After that, B and I met J,F and E near the "Living Fountain" at Piccadily Circus. Then, we left to have another round of tea at F's place. It was a nice catchup this time with the ex-MSPME coursemates. Again, the 'old good days' memories came flooding in.

However, I can't help comparing the two group of friends I have which are the ex-Cambridge-ans and ex-MSPME-ans. There are certain distinct differences and some similarities. I enjoyed both companies, nonetheless. Peculiarly, through them, I've realized I have actually changed-in my outlook of life, the way of thinking and a sense of maturity and adaptability. I can see the differences. Hopefully they are for the better.

Birthday Retreat: 7th-9th Nov 2008

I was lucky to be sponsored a free trip for my birthday. Not only had I a free train ticket but also a home cooked dinner. I went to Edinburgh to spend the weekend with B, just a few days before my birthday. I took the evening train straight from work on Friday and arrived Edinburgh at midnight. B was late but nevertheless we've found each other at the station. The next morning was spent resting at home and catched up with a common friend, LM. We then had our quiet birthday celebration. Just my taste which was reserve and relaxing.

The next day, we met up with P and J, both who are currently working in the city. It was a nice catchup, knowing how each other are doing and rekindle the memories we had in this city exactly 2 years ago.

It was a short, but a worthwhile visit.

Today is KY's birthday.

Today is also the day when the clock turns back an hour.

It also means an extra hour in the bed.

Today is another day for recuperating from the cold and flu.
Which makes me took a few hours of afternoon nap since a long time.

Today, I've cooked turkey for the first time, which taste pretty good.

Today, I've finished the book "Jane Eyre".

Today, it is raining.

Today, I brave the rain to the church.

Today, I've also witnessed a traditional service, with hyms we sang along with a very meaningful sermon.

Today, I went to bed early.

Rendez vous-Long lost friend

Last Sunday, I met a long lost friend. She found me through facebook and we came to know that both of us are in London. So, we thought we should meet up.
I've never met TWC since 1995. 13 years later, in Oct 2008, we met in Leicester Square and we went to a Malaysian restaurant for lunch.

We did had a good catch up on the years that we've lost and also recapping all those good days -including the days when her mum used to fetch her to my house for tuition. My mum used to give tuition when I was little. It was about 20 years ago, geez, how time flies.

Nonetheless, as I chatted with her, I came to know that she really came a long way, despite her family background, and I really admire her sheer determination and will power. One thing I like about her is that she never gives up easily. I am one, for sure very happy for her because all her attributes and hard work pays off-moulding her into a strong, and yet I would say pretty successful consultant in the engineering field. Indeed, I am really proud of her.

She suggested that we should have a monthly meet-up. I guess it would be nice.

Who would ever thought back then when we were just teenagers, that 13 years later, we would have a rendez vous sitting by the rear window at the 5th Floor of John Lewis building right at the Central London, enjoying our hot cappucino? (Well, I had juice instead:))

It just strikes me-Life is so unpredictable!!
With God's plan on mind,I know that I want to live the moment and appreciate every little things that God has provides. It's is just too short to waste it. Don't you think so? I am glad I went for this rendez vous to rekindle the friendship with a long lost friend.

Edinburgh Revisit

Last weekend I revisited Edinbugh, the mysterious city with its queer yet finest character of its own. I recalled the first time when I landed in this very elegant place two years ago. The only difference was that back then it was in autumn.This time I went to catch the famous Edinburgh Summer Festival. Well, to be honest really, I was looking for a relaxing weekend, which is to spend time with friends rather than sightseeing. Also, this time I took the train instead of plane and of course the journey is much shorter as I travelled fro London instead of K.L. Nonetheless, it was a nice revisit although I've missed the finale of the festival on Sunday night. Same place, same people, different feelings, different wheather, different purpose.


I stayed at a friend's place, in a 2 bed room apartment, very well located , right in the heart of the city. But what makes it really great was the location itself which is right beside the Edinburgh castle,atop and overlooking the Princess Garden. Also, what I am really impressed was the age and "character" of the apartment itself. From Princess Street, one can just look up and see the 5 level apartment right on top of the "volcano", so elegantly poised with the easily identified red balcony. Yeah, I did enjoy my stay there, living in a typical Scottish traditional house which was built probably some 300 years ago. Old you may say, but that what makes it really different than the rest.



Two years back, when I was just a student, I was walking along the Princess Street. Then,I have never thought that I would ever have the chance to stay in one of those cute little white houses on top of the hills near the castle. Today, two years later, I revisited the same city, same place though not as a student but rather as a working person, as I look up on the same buildings from the Princess Street, wow, it's like living in a fairytale, even though it is only over the weekend. It's like in a dream. It is something hard to believe, really unexpected reality.

Today, my company had an internal launch for the e-Reader, portraying the fable "Alice in the Wonderland", where Alice wanders in a land of wonder. I felt I was Alice.:) Somehow, I held a deep connection with Edinburgh- perhaps because of the mysterious element, or perhaps it has to do with its very own personality. Inexplicable, one just gotta feel 'it'.

Malaysia Week in London

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Malaysia came to London for a 5 days event where there were stage performances including traditional, folk and contemporary Malaysian dances. In addition, there were food stalls that offer Malaysian food such as 'satay', 'ayam rendang', 'roti canai', kueh such as 'onde-onde' and Malaysian local fruits such as 'nangka', 'maggis', 'rambutan', star fruit as well as coconut drink. Not to mention that there were also traditional games and sports displayed/demonstrated such as 'congkak' and silat. Having spent almost the whole day at the event made me miss home a little. Watching the dances and singing from the multicultural societies of Malaysia somehow affirm my beliefs that Malaysia is indeed very rich with its culture, hence makes me proud being a Malaysian.I remembered that I was contemplating on whether to attend this event, to the extend of texting a friend, asking him whether it was really worth going. Indeed I was glad that I went and not used the wheather as an excuse. Thank you A!;)I met Malaysians on the way and at the events. Tired, but nevertheless a fruitful trip. I do have an inexplicable strange feelings of experiencing Malaysia in London. It's like in a dream or fantasy. If it was not because of the Tower Bridge over the other side of the park, I really felt like at home. Oh, how I miss Malaysia in this sense.

Horse Riding near Cobham

I tagged along F and T for a horse riding trip, near Cobham. It was an interesting event especially for me as I observe how beautiful a horse could be and the details of different type of horses, brushes for cleaning the horses and different skills in moulding a horse character.In short-it's kinda like caring for someone which really requires lots of passion, patience, effort, time and energy-like baby.

Misha (a Polish name for Michael), was the name of the horse.Elegant, young, with a very strong character. Apparently, the horse is bred for competition and F is trying hard to train it to be a good, tough one. I must say that Misha is really unique,cranky a bit at the first impression but nonetheless beautiful with its elegant color. It was also interesting to learn that the skills needed from horse to compete-not racing, mind you but two of the areas which I could remember are 'posing'(like a model) and jumping. This horse was already trained in Poland for competition and it is only 4-5 years old (the life span of a horse is 25 years old). It must be really worth all the effort having to bring it to UK from Poland, thanks to T. Apparently it took them about 8 months for negotiation and paper work finalization before Misha arrived to Weybridge which was 2 weeks before me:)

After a slight warm up in the training area, we took the horse for a walk through the forest. I've got the chance to stroll through the forest, yet another green and posh area of Surrey and found some really nice houses around. Apparently according to T, some of the houses belong to the famous celebrities. So, rich people stay here as well. No wonder horse riding is a common sport here, despite that it is an expensive sport.Also, shooting and golf are another two common favourites.

We wanted to go to the church in the evening but it was too late. Hence, we took the horse back for shower and drove home. We chatted for a while and look through the pictures as F scrutinize the postures and the progress of the training. Honestly, I do admire F's passion for horses and her determination to go for what she really loves doing. As for T, I do admire his determination to pursue his love. Overall this horse riding trip was not only enjoyable but it was an eye-opener experience for me.

A weekend away with friends

On Saturday, LM came over to Weybridge and pay me a visit. I picked her up from the train station which is about 5-10mins walk from where I currently live. We then went around shopping at the High Street of Weybridge. Well, it was really nothing as compared to the shopping streets in Central London, which I'd certainly warned her. Nonetheless, we did enjoy the calm and peaceful atmosphere that Weybridge offers,where one might not find in the buzz of the metropolitan city. We then went to Tesco express which was quite a distance away (and go lost:P), but nonetheless we bought lots of food to cook, and probably could last me for a week or two. She spend a night at my place and we watched a DVD to close the day.

The next day, we took a lift from my housemate to the Central London and she drove us to the Lancaster Gate where she took some medicine courses. I then met B and we went to the British musuem and shopping. It was really great to mix both learning and leisure together. One could really seek lots of knowledge by learning the history and understanding why things happened, though frankly, I never could fully understand the history of thousand or zillion years ago. I just appreciate them, rather than truly understand them,really. As there was also summer sales in London I've got myself a pretty good deal on a pair of working leather shoes and a shirt.

Later in the evening,I took the tube from Oxford Circus to Upton Park, where I've met one of my 'long time no see' friend. Hehe, you might be surprised to hear this but it's true-I met L,a BBC during my Trans Siberian trip in Aug/Sept 2006 on a train. That was two years ago and we did keep in touch along the way. Last year our paths cross again in London. I came from Edinburgh on my virgin trip to this buzzy city. L, was so kind to bring B&I around London for a short sightseeing, though back then frankly, I am more interested in catching up with her rather than the city itself.

Then on the 20th July, we met again. This time, it was her farewell party. We had a BBQ with some of her friends at her place. I met some of her cool friends, British, Italian, BBC and some of her family members. I have always like her cheerful smile and easy going personality. This time she is gonna leave for HK, perhaps for good. Haha...no wonder she has planned to ship all of her stuff and even the bedside table, all in 'a single bed size' amount of luggage all the way from London to HK. My train trip from the West to East London, is certainly nothing compares to her version of West(UK) to East (HK) trip:) Also, S, A and I stayed back and chatted with her.We had inherited some good books. One of them is the "Walks in Britain". I came to know that S joined a hiking club in London and A is keen to "do things" and L was suggesting that we should hike sometime before she leaves for her backpacking trip to Vietnam and straight to HK. So, L is gonna hook us up thru facebook, and perhaps I might foster hiking as my hobby though frankly, I doubt my stamina;)Nonetheless, I am always attracted to the majestic scenery of the God made hills, lakes and nature. It brought back some nostalgias on my last China trip with KY and WY 3-4 years ago. To re-live such an inexplicable adventure and experience would be really cool.

Speaking about hiking, did I mention that in Weybridge, one of the common sports over here is horse riding? Yeah, no joke, F,my current apartment mate owns a horse! She's only 27, owns a clinic and very entrepreneur. She has a smiling face all the time. An attribute which I really admire. So is S, who was my potential landlady in Weybridge and L,my colleague at S and her daughter; all are horse riders. Another activity worth considering;)

However, the horse riding experience with KC, A and I during our Trans Siberian adventure which had caused body ache and the pain in the ass, somehow deterred me;). I've talked to F, who seems to be an expert in horses, she seems to be very knowledgable and honestly, she has somewhat charmed my interest in horses.On the other hand, I felt pity for the horses, having to be ridden by humans.Hmm...we'll see...

Weybrigde: A bridge to a New Life?

I have moved to Weybridge on the 10th July, a day earlier than planned. This is because there was the Elton John concert on the 11th July and to avoid the traffic jam, my friends have decided to help me to move on Thursday. W&C were so kind to drive my luggage and myself to Weybridge at the late night on the 10th. I'd arrived at almost 12 midnight and by the time I'd unpacked it was pretty late. Nonetheless, as I woke up the next morning, boy did I really appreciate the short distance to the train station where I used to catch the free shuttle bus to the company at The Heights.The first impression that I had for Weybridge when I attended the first interview with S was that it is calm, peaceful and green. I also saw employees who had cycled to work up the hill to their respective companies.At that time, I was even thinking of cycling to work if I get this job.The second time I went back to S for the second interview, accessment and presentation, I knew back then that I have grown accustomed to Weybridge.There was somehow a weird pulling sense of belonging here.Hard to explain but I guess it's because I have always like nature-the calmness and the friendliness of the country men have always impressed me. I felt rather peaceful, quiet and calm. Never have I ever thought that Weybridge is actually a posh area , where many rich people lives here. Hence, properties' prices here soar high. I've just got to know today from a colleague who lives here that apparently there are many wealthy rich men , particularly from the Scandinavian and the Chelsea football players who live here or nearby. No wonder I remember seeing a group of kids learning horse riding while I was "riding" the bus.Even my housemate, who is half French and half British with an origin from India, owns a horse! Apparently, London city itself doesn't have much appeal to these countryside lovers. This area may be posh, to me it's kinda like a small town. Nonetheless, I like it sofar though I am yet to walk around and discover more of the area. There is also a canal which could be really romantic strolling and taking picture.Hmm, I guess probably I would venture myself into the country activities, in addition to the weekend city trips since Central London is only 35mins away by train. Hey, come to think of it-it is indeed a great opportunity to be able to explore both side of UK-the city and the countryside. Visiting is one thing, living is another. I am looking forward to explore Weybridge, perhaps a bridge to a new chapter of my life-both professionally and personally.

Present: Carpe Diem and The "S'es....

Today is the 29th June. The month of June is gonna end soon. But one thing I am pretty certain: I am gonna live the moment! A week passed since I was attached to S, based at Frimley. I really like the technology adopted in the buiding of the company, the facilities (i.e cashless, shuttle bus and yes, they have a gym in their buiding for the staff!) and the flexi hours in the company. The staff can choose to work from home (how cool!). I came to know that even if your role is not that highly ranked over here as compared to Malaysia, the level of responsibilities and independence expected are rather high. I remembered what my French Director once told me that working in Europe, even as an intern requires a lot of time and commitment. I could not agree less. Ha...nothing are really like Malaysia in terms of working style/culture. As I do admire Asians' commitment and diligence, I also really do admire the high sense of responsibilities and efficiency adopted by the Europeans. These are certainly some of the attributes that I've learnt over here at S.

As the month of June is coming to an end, follows by the month of July, I am again looking forward for another new journey. I will update you when the time comes. At the present, I am living the moment. As for tomorrow, it will be a mystery. As for the past, it's history. As for now-the present, I just wanna make the most out of my time here, it's a gift (that's why it's called the present;), so I am gonna appreciate it, work hard in righteousness and for His glory. As for the others, I'll leave it to Him.

Ironically, I can't help wondering whether the letter 'S' could have somewhat related or signified to me anything recently. Four companies begins with the letter 'S' has somewhat associated with me. Ive let go of a job opportunity by co S in Malaysia. Now I am attached to another company, S, who was mistaken for another co. S by the headhunter. Strangely, the upcoming company also starts with S. Haha...I wonder if there are more events with 'S'es lining up for my discovery..:)Good events, I hope.
I would like to think the coming 'S'es as Shining, Singing, Sweet, Safe, Strength,Sunny and errr...'Sexy'? haha:)Neh, perhaps more Sense of humor would brings more happiness and meaning to life:)Cheers.

Where God guides, He provides.

I have gone thru months of many diferent experiences-roller coaster months!. But He did provide. He did give me the energy, talent and resources to do it. Even now, I am still at the crossroads of a decision and I think many decisions more to come. I've learnt not too worry so much (Matthew 6: 24-34)

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today". (Matthew 6: 34).

I will not have survived till today if it's not for Him who provides. I left home alone, with so much aspirations and hopes to achieve but unexpectedly, the answers I was seeking were not what I've expected. It was ironically a twist of fate, which brought me to where and what I am now. I may not have achieved what I have aspired and wanted before I took the courage and board the plane from Malaysia to UK, but I guess God has a plan for me.Indeed He provides. Now that I reflect, He was holding my hands and guiding me all the way. I've made friends I never thought I really would. Ive learnt to forgive and forget (though am still learning).I have also learnt cooking from W and began to appreciate every little things in life. I've learnt a lot about kindness. "What goes around, comes around" (W, 2008).I am really grateful for all of the support from my friends-in everything. I am thankful that He is watching over me. Indeed, once the children of Christ, He will never, ever forsake you. I was drifted away,yeah, I'd backslided, somehow, He was so merciful. He forgives. It was thru my sis, who has given me the Study Bible on the day that I was flying to London, which has brought the desire and hunger of being close to Him. I'd never looked back since. He does provide, in the past, now and future. If we do our part, I believe He will do the rest. I choose to trust Him!

Love?

I came across another message about love thru the facebook today and I find it quite meaningful...

May Day

A new chapter will begin.I guess May would be another roller coaster month for me. But before I welcome May, I would like to (officially) close one of my most eventful adventure in the month of April.

This week brought me many news. Disapointment, maybe a tinge but perhaps the news signal paths, or perhaps gifts from God. I realize that maybe it is in God's plan, L UK is not for me. Perhaps also P. Ironically, I felt a relief, as if the burden on me has been lifted for a while. I have been seeking for answers of whether L is really meant for me. Somehow, it is not.

Also,when I have almost given up on S, it re-appear unexpectedly, I can opt to start in June. Is it really an indication from HIM? As I've mentioned, I really like the job nature and the prospects. But there are also other aspirations that I would like to give a shot. Haha...it reminds that sometimes in life, the more you wanna seek it, the more you can't reach it. Likewise, the more you try to avoid it, it came rolling in unexpectedly. How true this can be.

My friend, YP and her parents also came to London last Sunday. I revisited Bath with them. Nostalgia flooded within me. I came to Bath with my other 6 coursemates in Dec 2006. It was pretty rush trip but nonetheless great. I think back then, it was the camaraderie that matters. You've get to know people, the way they are -you laugh, argue and cry with them. But I guess that's what makes them so speacial. Also probably because we are so diverse,we have 'interesting' personalities. Suddenly, I could feel the breeze of time.Whew, years go by just like that.

I am planning for a holiday now as to give some space to my friend. So, I would have about 2 weeks plus to travel. I am still in the midst of planning, yet I still can't decide the timing to fit the places that I wanna visit.It has been quite a while since I last travel alone. I think it was in the year 2002, when I was in the Eastern Europe.I never thought that 6 years later I am doing this again, in this continent. Again,life is unexpected.

Another remark worth mentioning here is that during these 2 weeks, I had very good home cooked food. 'Bak kut teh', raw salmon (thanks W, but unfortunately, I don't really know how to eat raw fish), scallop porridge (thanks to YP mum), herbs soup (C's specialty) and many many more. Hehe, it also makes me wanna learn to cook. YP's mum is really a good cook, with all the 'techniques' of cooking great dishes. Wow, one day if I have the chance, I really wanna learn from her.

I don't know what is there set for me in the road ahead. But one thing for sure, I will take the challenges ahead in stride, at the same time, not to put pressures on myself. I've learnt and discover a few things these 2 weeks though: 1) I really like YP's parents, especially her mum. She is not only a good cook, but courtesy, respect, sense of humour, tolerance are the attributes that makes her a very good mum,wife and a person. I honestly think that YP's dad is a lucky man! 2) W, is also an 'unusal' man, he not only loves cooking but he is very good in it! Also, the way he cares for his wife and his wife's friends and parents makes him really a very unique and loving man. 3) I admire C's confidence and hospitality. Her unexpected experience during her @ traineeship and her courage somehow motivate me.

Another remarkable encounter...

I met T at MSN today,a friend whom I've met in Japan during the AIESEC APLDS conference in 2002. Apparently he has opened his own business,dealing with cars. N, a common friend of ours is also coming to London this June for a long term posting by his company while Y is teaching in Africa now. Apparently Y is doing some kind of volunteer work and N had a fast promotion to the role that he is holding now.Meanwhile, K is going to be a lawyer soon.Wow, how time really flies.

T, even invited me to help him out in Japan, if his business goes well. Apparently, it is doing good so far despite the recession. Wow, that's the power of networking! Or, perhaps that's the power of AIESEC as he also quoted that he got some useful business tips from his Kenyan friend. Meanwhile, I do sincerely wish him the very best of luck in his business.Not that I want a job from him but I really wanna see my friends to succeed. You know, I am indeed very proud of having such a entrepreneur and courageous friend. As for N, K and Y, it was a great honor knowing these outstanding talents! AIESEC brought us together and I do believe that somehow AIESEC has (partly) groomed us into what we are today.

I really hope to meet them again someday.

I came across this book recently. It reminds me of the time when I've watched this movie in the romantic city of Paris!It was a very touching movie. I love this song as well-perfect setting with a beautiful song and story line. It kept me wondering though, does true love exist in this real world? I think it does,one just gotta seek it...

22/4- Spoke to TW, the COO of FC. I really like his frankness and honesty. He gave me a very good first impression of yet another Irish (though I thought maybe he is from a Polish parentage from his surname).It was an unexpected arrangement, really. It reminds me of one of the most rarest and ironic moments in life.:)

23/4- Met and spoken to HM and MS of L UK. A pretty casual meeting- kind of like a 'get-to-know you better' meeting. It was quite an experience. At least I've given L one final shot. Then, we'll see what's God's plan for me, if L is really meant for me.

6pm: Met with the landlord and collected the deposit on behalf of the other housemates. LM came to assist me in packing and etc.Ahh, what an experience!
I don't mean to whine but today itself the landlord was late, I broke the wheel of my luggage bag and I lost my ticket in the tube. But eventually, all turn ok as landlord has no issue on the house.I just need to pass the cheque to B to distribute the money to the rest. I was pardoned for the missing tickets-it was nice of the officer at the counter. Thank you, sir! As for my bag, I guess I just gotta get another one. Nonetheless, I do count my blessings...

7.45pm: Moved to another friend's place at Zone 6. The place is pretty quiet but a nice residential area though it's pretty far from the city centre. But I guess this place surely has something to offer-I am yet to explore and discover. C came and picked me up.

8pm: Had dinner with C and her hubby. They are really a loving couple. Her hubby cooks superb Chinese food. It was 'world class standard'. Well, maybe I exaggerate a little but his parents used to open a restaurant, so u can guess the standard if his cooking. We had sour cabbage with meat, green vege, grilled duck and sweet and sour hot dog.I felt the warmth of a family again. It's really comfy here, they have a really nice 2 bed-room apartment filled with love and warmth. It's like a real home here. I certainly thank God for knowing such a lovely couple.

24/4-It is rainy here in the very West of London but I guess not a bad day to start as I have several calls and some appointments coming up. So, we'll see how things turn out.

I think my journey in UK will certainly not be easy- as I've foreseen before I come here. Somehow, I do have several expectations and I do have intentions to discover and explore certain things these few months of my life in this part of the world. I do seek for answers in certain areas. I am in the process of seeking, discovering and exploring. Sometimes I am disappointed, but at this time of darkness and uncertainties, I certainly know who my true friends are. Ironically, at certain times, strangers became friends. It also test my faith and I really appreciate the blessings from Him. It is definitely not a smooth path-it surely gonna be rocky at times, perhaps I would be splashed with "mud" at certain times, alone in the 'dark forest', cold and with the greatest fear you can ever imagine. Friends said I am brave and that I have the courage to go ahead but frankly I am yet another vulnerable human being. I will go through this process, certainly, at least for another month. I told myself it is the journey that matters. I think there is no failure but the experience and reactions to them. I guess at certain point in our life, we have to make decisions, stick to it and never look back...I pray for strength.

Journey to London...

21/3- Collected my IGS visa.

4/4- Last day of work @ LM . I did enjoy my time at LM. Trend analysis and the interactions with my colleagues and friends were indeed a very good opportunity for a transition to the real business working world again. I do appreciate every seconds I was there.In fact, I came in again and this time I do have a different perspective of looking at things and resolving issues. I genuinely felt that at that moment, my 16 months of studies and experience in Europe has groomed me into a 'different' individual. I see things holistically now, I became more matured (a colleague claimed so),open hearted,realistic and perhaps more spiritual? -(I desire to seek God's guidance).

5/4- Left for Melaka, met KC, HP, A, I, S (the ex-AA staff) for supper/gathering.
6/4- Reunion with family, witness the plaque and photo fixing on my dad's ashes @ Melaka.
6/4 (night)- Flight to London, was sent off by two of my lovely sisters.

7/4- Transit at Bangkok, had the Thai traditional massage :)
7/4 (7.15am London time)- arrive at London, took the tube to Bermondsey.
7/4-afternoon, checked mail-got a great job offer from S. I really like the job nature and the career prospects.It requires extensive travelling to the company's properties across the world!! I have to make a choice.

12/4-Went for a movie with B, J and N. We watched "The Other Boleyn Girl". A great movie to watch in UK, especially the setting was in Tower Bridge which is only about 20-30 mins walk from the place I am staying.Cool,huh. Also, had "Pad Thai" (Thai noodle cooked with Thai chilli sauce and shrimp)in a nice Thai restaurant at South Kensington.

13/4-Met LM, a friend of HP. We went around the Tower Bridge amongst the busy streets in the event of the London Marathon.It was cool witnessing these "tough" people running in the midst of the cold and rain.

16/4-Visited LM at her place at Zone 1. She cooked instant noodle, cucumber,carrots and minced meat. It's simple but yet delicious.

18/4- Got a message from LM-she got a job after the interview today! Happy for her.Supposed to go to the Malaysian Hall with her but I guess we decided to go next time. I will go to church later, was invited by a housemate. Look forward to meet more friends:)

Rendez vous

I met with the DC of co. L yesterday. We chatted for a while and got an offer to help the controlling team on a temporary basis while waiting for my IGS/PSW visa. Somehow, N, the DC whom I have spoken to seems nice. He has an extensive working experience in one of the Big 4 and a renowned commercial company. Most strikingly, he sounds very gentle and approachable. Somehow, he gave me a comfortable feeling that I should be able to learn from him and work together with the team. As it might be too early to say, the first impression that he has given me as a boss is nonetheless impressive. However, I would be able to say more once I am integrated into the team and to get really hands-on the business issues and/or projects. At the meantime,I would keep my fingers cross for the smooth sailing of my career and personal plans and aspirations.

So, I've decided to post some pictures in memory of those who have made my perspective wider and have enriched my learning and European experience out of the conventional textbooks.:) To you-"the very structured people" whom I've met in Siegburg, Germany.

The Past Weeks in Malaysia: IGS and Papa Funeral

Today I have finally submitted the IGS application form to the UK Visa Application Centre. It has been 3 weeks since I touched down Malaysia on the 20th Feb 2008. It has been a roller coaster month. Nonetheless, events that happen made me think and I felt that I have grown. Perhaps I would give credit to my 16 months of Europe experience or perhaps I do actually have grown from the events that have just happened. Wrinkles and the exhaustive look when I have just arrived could testify that. Even my friends commented that. Geez, perhaps my Europe trip has taken a great toll out of me. Or perhaps my recent dad’s death has somewhat affected me.

My dad took his last breath when I was at the plane, on my way back from Germany to Malaysia. It was 19th Feb, 11.15 am. I only came to know not even when I touched down at KLIA but rather at KL Sentral when I met YM. My sis, M joined later and told me that she needs to send me straight to Melaka for the funeral arrangement. Sis G, bro A and J were already in Melaka. Bro M was in Australia and he flew back straight to Singapore and picked up my sis-in-law to join us the next day.

I recalled the moment when I was asked by the personnel and friends in Europe what was the first thing that I want to do when I arrive Malaysia, I told them that I want to have a reunion dinner before the ‘Chap Goh Mei’ 2008 (the 15th day of CNY which marks the end of CNY on the 21st Feb 2008). I’ve already missed the reunion dinner on the 6th Feb 2008 and the year before, therefore, I really do intend to have one with my sisters in KL at least and I do plan to visit my siblings in JB and Singapore as well as my parents in Melaka.

Never would I have expected that my arrival would be greeted with the news of my dad’s passing. I was shocked nonetheless. I felt disappointed and sad. Most importantly, I felt really upset because I was the only sibling who did not manage to see my dad’s last face before he passed away. I did not come back since the last 16 months when I left for Europe on the 26th Sept 2006. I felt really regretful that I did not visit my dad often when he was at the home when he was alive and when I were still in Malaysia. Now, I could just hope that he will be well taken care in Heaven. I pray that he will live in peace and free from all the sufferings he had felt. He never had a real home. I hope that now he has found his real home being cared by God. Papa, sorry that I did not manage to meet you but I am thankful that I was scheduled to be back to at least pay the last respect to you before you were cremated. Please take care and bless all of your children here on earth and help us to remember you always. Papa, your gentleness and mildness will always stay and cherished in our hearts. May peace be with you. Love, Amy.

Lessons learnt

Reflecting the last 16 months in Europe, here are some of the significant lessons which I have learnt:

1)I have the opportunity to benchmark my professional and academic skills.
2)Personal development. I learnt more about myself and from my course mates. I’ve learnt that each one of us is unique and each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses that could complement each other.
3)I did my first thesis in Europe. I’ve learnt to see things from a consultant perspective through my thesis partner.
4)I am more open and well-rounded, with an international perspective. I am inspired by the skills-both technical and soft skills, the poise and charm of my lecturers and some classmates.
5)I have learnt to leave luxurious indulgences and the comfort of home-massage and facial, convenience (transport), well paying job for a student life in Europe. I do appreciate the finer things in life.
6)Career and money are not everything. A well balanced life along with friendships, warmth of families and loved ones are something that money can never buy.I value humanity more.
7)I love nature, art and history even more. Traveling to the UNESCO sites (thanks to B) and staying in small cities like Umea and Edinburgh gave me a sense of peace, culture and human empathy.
8)Living in big cities like Milan gave me a good insight of a metropolitan life.
9)I have learnt the differences between business vs academic writing, my English writing skills has improved.
10)A chance to learn Italian and Swedish. I would not take any credit of being able to converse fluently but at least I have learnt to differentiate these languages ;)
11)A chance to get a taste of staying, living and traveling in several sides of Europe: Eastern, Central, Western, Scandinavia and Island (UK).

One thing for sure, I will not trade these 16 months for anything else. It was all worth it. It was like a dream come true. Today, as I reflect, it was as if yesterday that my journey has just begun. How time flies...

One door closes, another door opens

We have finally finished our thesis defense and discussants for the other 3 theses on the 15th January 2008. The following day marked the unofficial graduation dinner with the other MSPME students, lecturers (yes, two of the course director flew from Milan and Edinburgh just to be with us) and the course staff. The day filled with laughter, tears and good wishes amongst the 26 of us from 13 nationalities. During the dinner, I had the honor of sitting beside one of the course coordinator, Professor A.S, whose remark has created an impression on me: “We (the course coordinators) took years of sweat and hard work from the initiation stage right up to bringing 26 of you here to Edinburgh, Milan and Umea, and finally you all are here, being the first batch of the MSPME graduates. It’s amazing to see the strong bond that you guys have shared. You are like one big family!”. Yeah, Prof. A,indeed we can testify that through our actions.We have studied, stayed, traveled, partied, cried, laughed and even missed flights together. We have celebrated all the festivals together: Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidifitri, Deepavali, Christmas, St Lucia. Without our closest families members to share our happiest and saddest moments,fortunately we have each other. How can we not call ourselves one big family? But without your effort, along with Prof A. and Prof. P;all these experiences would have been impossible. Thanks a zillion!!

In a way, 16th January 2008 marked the end of our 16 months amazing journey. They say, "All has to come to an end". But I believe it is just th beginning of yet another chapter of our lives. As we slowly close the door of the pioneer batch of MSPME 2006, I believe new doors are awaiting us-hopefully the doors are the ones that eventually will lead us to our goals and aspirations. My heartfelt wishes and prayers to all of my course mates out there, no matter which part of the world that you are in right now,may success and happiness be with you.
