Living as a Londoner is definitely at a cost. The setbacks are the following:
1)It took me an hour to get to work door-to-door vs 20 mins when I was living in Weybridg , which can be tiring.
2)It costs me a fortune to buy the seasonal pass (200 quid as compared to free shuttle bus provided by the company)
3) There is pollution in the city
4) The overcrowded and rowdy city lifestyle
5) There are less plants. Hence lack of fresh air and the countryside 'feel'.
6) London has just too many activities not to be missed eg. theatre, musical, tasting good food,etc-that also means spending money, energy and time
7) You never really have time for yourself as you indulge actively in the city activities.
To be fair, there are benefits living in London as well. These include the following:
1) London is vibrant-you would never get bored .
2) Most of my friends are in London. Hence, catching and meeting up are easier and frequent.
3) London is a good place for musuems and best of all, they are mostly free and one can actually learn by visiting these places.
4) Albeit missing the countryside lifestyle, adapting to a London lifestyle gives me a different perspective and added value experience. Being a Londoner suddenly makes me more assertive, adaptable and 'talkative'. It reminds me while I was living in Melaka and KL
I was asked by my colleagues recently whether I like living in London. Frankly, all I can really say is that London and Weybridge are just 'different', hence they are really difficult to compare. I appreciate them both, as each has its own unique traits.
If one asked me whether I would prefer Melaka or KL, I would say I like both- Melaka for its rich culture and values, and KL for its job opportunities and shopping.
Personally, I reckon, the environment and place are static but human beings are mobile. It is up to us, to adjust and adapt. That is what life is all about which is to live the moment! Places do not really matter. It's about the people and living life to the fullest. As for living in London, it's just part of life:)
