Happy Chinese New Year 2009!
I went back to Malaysia for CNY. I spend 2 weeks with my family and friends. Here goes my holiday itinerary:
23rd Jan- I've departed from London Heathrow to KLIA via Amsterdam
24th Jan- I've arrived KLIA at 1630 with an hour delay. Got a lift from KY's sis to Melaka as her flight from Shanghai also touched down about the same time as mine.
25th Jan- I had reunion dinner with family. We had steamboat. This year,sis G spent time with her in-laws and hubby, while M was in Sabah with her hubby. I've missed the last 2 years CNY as I was in Edinburgh and Paris in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Hence, it was nice to be back home this round for the festive season.
26th Jan-Kong Hei Fatt Choy!! It's the first day of CNY. I went visiting to our relatives' place by three cars; Bro J, A & M all drove bringing their little 'troops':)
27th Jan- Sis G arrived from KL with her hubby and kids. We had family lunch. I followed bro A to KL to visit his in laws. We stayed at the Sunway Pyramid Tower. We went for a movie " All Well Ends Well" and did a little shopping. Met F and Alden for mamak at night.
28th Jan- Sis M arrived from Sabah, met her at KL Sentral and we drove back to Melaka. I had gathering with the ex-AA staff, followed by another gathering with ex-Form 6 classmates. We've also visited KM & LF 's new house.
29th Jan- We had 'dim sum' for family breakfast before sis G left for KL. Sis M, mum, AL and me also had lunch with LY's mum and LT. M and I also brought mum for a body massage.
30th Jan- Open house at LY's place.
31st Jan- Met with KH and KY. Both are doing pretty well as a consultant and FC in Msia and Shanghai. We went to a cakehouse at Melaka Raya, recommended by KY. I must say that the cheese cake was really good. For dinner, I went with m and AL for 'Ikan Bakar'.
1st Feb- Met with KY, KC and his gf, A. We went to 'Uncle John Kopitiam'. I had "Nasi Lemak" and a cup of honey ginseng tea. It was a nice catchup as it has been quite sometime since I last saw KC before he left to SZ.
2nd Feb- I went to the PNB office, tried to get a new passbook but was asked to take the oath from the commissioner. I've decided not to do it now as there wasn't an urgent need. Had a hair cut and went shopping with sis and mum in the Melaka city. Also, I had 'bak kut teh' and 'longan tong shui' at LY's place for dinner.
3rd Feb- Left for KL in the morning. Met up with F, E and YL at Bangsar (Madam Kwan). I brought my sis, M along. She seems to have a nice chat with E as they have a common topic to talk about i.e dancing.:) Ahh, and guess what, we also bumped into Winson at the Devi's Corner. What a coincidence! (Winson is Alden's friend whom I've met in London).
4th Feb-According to KM, it is the real 1st day of CNY and hence it is an auspicious day to wear red and bank in money into the bank. It is believed that this day would determine the momentum for the rest of the person's days in 2009. How interesting!
6th Feb- Breakfast with S & C. Dinner with sis G & M. Flight back to London, my another home:)
7th Feb- transit at Amsterdam. I took the train from the Schipol airport to the city centre in an impressively quick 15 minutes train ride. I went for sighhtseeing at the city for a couple of hours before meeting up with Han and Nga for lunch. The visit to the Anne Frank's house was informative. As I was strolling through the rooms, it was as if I was living in the history.Well, I have read her diary when I was in high school. Back then, I've never thought that I would actually visit the 'Secret Annex'. So being there was like being in a dream.
My flight from Amsterdam to London in the evening went without any delay. As I was also trying to explore the bus and train route from Heathrow-WAT-Weybridge, I was rather impressed with the only one hour journey home- economical and convenient.
I reckon that one day if I ever leave London, one of the good traits that I would probably miss is the transport network. London has definitely one of the best transport network.

Happy New Year 2009 !!!
Having missed the 2006 Hogmanay, this year 2008, I've decided at the very last minute to join my friends in Edinburgh for the Hogmanay's event. Also, having the permission to work from home on the 2nd Jan gave me an opportunity to spend a longer holiday in Edinburgh. Well, not that this is really a big deal since I've already spend the Christmas holidays in Edinburgh and came back 4 days later for work, but I guess being a sentimental person, it has got to do with the nostalgia and wanting to spend time with friends. :)
So, I've arrived Edinburgh on the new year's eve at about 8.30pm, in time for the new year countdown. Despite some obstacles (road blockage, tickets issue,etc) somehow I was really lucky, being able to meet B, F, PK, H and Nga and we've got a nice spot in front of the La Senza, along the Princess Street, overlooking the castle on top of the hill in the midst of the overcrowded street, all waiting for the clock to tick 12. We were lucky to get some tickets from the "Man of the Town" as he offered us 4 tickets on our way back to B's apartment, for which gave us ample time to go home, relax, had a nice dinner before we went out to the street again for the countdown. Braving the cold and the overpacked streets, we've managed to catch the brilliant fireworks and most imporantly, in my opinion is being able to catch that special moment with someone closes to me-my friends.
So, here are some of the pictures which portray the fireworks.
After a short but nonetheless memorable countdown, we headed to B's apartment for a cup of tea and to warm ourselves. However, all have to leave on the 1st Jan. PK to Paris, F to london, while N & H to Netherlands.
Surprisingly, the street performances which I was looking forward was held on the 1st Jan night. While the others have gone back, B and I braved the cold and rain to watch the performances. Indeed we enjoyed the event very much.

I left Edinburgh on the 4th Jan by the 16.10 train. But, guess what? After so much of a great and relaxing holiday, I was doomed for a roller coaster trip. My ticket was scheduled to bring me to Weybridge at 22.49, with changes at the Preston, Euston and Vauxhall. My route should have gone like this:
Edinburgh-> Preston-> London Euston-> Vauxhall-> Weybridge
But somehow, thanks to the engineering works, not only the train from Preston to Euston was 30 mins delayed, the route has changed completely! The so-called adventurous route was the following.
Edinburgh- Preston (30mins delay)-> Milton Keynes-> Bus to Luton airport-> London King Cross-> Vauxhall-> Weybridge.
Despite the many changes, delays and stress, I was really grateful that the last train from Vauxhall to Weybridge was delayed. I was 3 mins late for the last scheduled train to Weybridge. Fortunately, the train was delayed by 12 mins hence made me early by 9 minutes. I arrived home safely at 12.30am. At that moment, I felt God has answered my prayer. After texting F & B that I've arrived home safely, I've unpacked, washed myself and put myself to a nice sleep.
As for the Year 2009, I pray and hope for a better year-professionally, personally, spiritually and socially. I still want to trust God for the plans in my life, and for my friends out there may I wish all of you a very Happy New Year 2009! Cheers.

16th Dec-Atkins Christmas dinner at Captain Cabin, near Piccadily Circus, London.
Had a great time socializing and 'entertaining' ourselves with the pub quiz, secret santa and food:)
17th Dec- Christmas lunch with the SUK demand planners from all business groups at the company's restaurant.
18th Dec- Christmas dinner with the SUK supply chain team at Chobam.
19th Dec- Christmas Concert at the Weybridge Methodist Church.
21st Dec- Sunday morning service and evening Carol Service. I was assigned to read Lesson Four, taken from Isaiah 11.
22nd Dec-Secret Santa with the Audio Business Group. Hmm..I wonder who was my Secret Santa.

24th Dec- Edinburgh, here I come....
Personally, this year 2008 is the year which I had the most Christmas meals in my entire life. Ironically, Christmas in Europe makes me feel that it is time for eating and gathering with 'families', colleagues and friends. It is also a time for exchanging presents.I also reckon that this year I've received the most Christmas presents since a long time, thanks to the Secret Santa tradition. Nonetheless, it is also a time for giving and sharing...Personally, to me sharing the time and enjoying the moments with friends and close ones are more meaningful during this holiday season.
I wonder how would my Christmas gonna be?

A Sunday Korean lunch
Today, after church as I was walking home with Stone, we chatted about plans for Christmas and out of the blue, he just blurted out an invitation to his home for lunch. After making a phone call to his wife, we were heading to his home.
I accepted his invitation as I would like to visit his two very cute little girls. Also, because I heard that his wife had a headache. Hence, I thought, it would be nice to pay them a visit.
We did had a great time together, playing with his "babies", chatting with his cousin, Han Jin, who dropped by after his two months Europe tour and Eun Jin, his tenant. His wife cooked some very delicious Korean dishes, including "kim chi". It was an interesting discovery about the Korean chopsticks. I came to know yesterday through Joanne's birthday at the Bugis Street Restaurant at Gloucester Road that the chopsticks for the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans differ. The Japanese chopsticks are sharper and pointed while the Chinese are thicker and round. Having travelled to Japan and China, that doesn't come as a surprise. However, the Korean chopsticks do actually left me in awe. They are actually square! I also came to know that each of these designs serve different functions.
The Chinese tends to 'scoop slowly' with their chopsticks while the Koreans and Japanese puts the food in their mouth 'abruptly'. Well, that were the interpretations I've got from Joanne. Whether it is a coincidence or a fact, I do agree to a certain extend.
After a nice cup of Korean coffee, although Stone and his cousin tried to convince me to play badminton outdoor, I politely declined due to the cold wheather. His wife finally suggested that we played an indoor game. I can't really remember the name of the game but it is relative to Scrabble but instead of using alphabets, we used a tile of numbers. Apparently it is a game played by the Israelites to promote IQ. I must admit that it was intelletual. Creativity, strategy and constant thinking are needed to win the game. As time past so quickly, it was time for me to leave. Stone and EJ walked me to the door of their house.I went strolling home, with a smile on my face.
As I walked, I reflected. Being a passionate person, I can't help thinking how the time spent with this lovely family has actually affected me. There I was, sitting side by side with some Koreans having meals, playing and laughing together. I am glad, really glad that I know Stone and his family. Warmth filled my heart. Also, I felt that life is just too short not appreciating people's presence. My view: Live the moment and appreciate the people around you!-no matter what...

3-in-1
22nd Nov 2008.
I thought I might as well mark this day in my blog. It was the weekend when one of my ex-coursemates came down all the way from Mexico. I wanted to organize a pizza party on the weekends after my birthday. However, I've decided to postpone it to the following weekend. Well, you may say that I'd use it as an 'excuse' to gather some people, especially since E, came all the way from Mexico. J came from Hundersfield while B came from Scotland.Or you may say it as a welcoming party for E. This day also coincided with A's birthday gathering. Hence, A actually suggested that we combine our celebrations together. We thought that it would be kinda cool combining his friends and mine and thus in a way widen our social circle. So, we met at a Pakistan cross Indian restaurant near the White Chapel Road. B, J, E, J and F are my friends who came while A invited J,P,O and W. After lunch we headed to P's comfy place for tea although E,F and J left for Harrods instead.
I must say that I had a great time. It was a very intellectual yet relaxing chat with the bunch of A's mates-mostly consultants. To my surprise, I really enjoyed talking and hanging out with them. We chatted on the topics such as olympics (well, most of them are consultants for the coming 2012 Olympics projects), Sudan (O would be posted to Sudan to work as an engineer in a maternity hospital), immigration (rules and different viewpoints), Cambridge coursemates and lots more. I was also impressed by J who apparently was the Gates scholar(yes-Bill GATES fund!). She did appear to be pretty witty and presentable,for whom I truly admire.
After that, B and I met J,F and E near the "Living Fountain" at Piccadily Circus. Then, we left to have another round of tea at F's place. It was a nice catchup this time with the ex-MSPME coursemates. Again, the 'old good days' memories came flooding in.
However, I can't help comparing the two group of friends I have which are the ex-Cambridge-ans and ex-MSPME-ans. There are certain distinct differences and some similarities. I enjoyed both companies, nonetheless. Peculiarly, through them, I've realized I have actually changed-in my outlook of life, the way of thinking and a sense of maturity and adaptability. I can see the differences. Hopefully they are for the better.

Birthday Retreat: 7th-9th Nov 2008
I was lucky to be sponsored a free trip for my birthday. Not only had I a free train ticket but also a home cooked dinner. I went to Edinburgh to spend the weekend with B, just a few days before my birthday. I took the evening train straight from work on Friday and arrived Edinburgh at midnight. B was late but nevertheless we've found each other at the station. The next morning was spent resting at home and catched up with a common friend, LM. We then had our quiet birthday celebration. Just my taste which was reserve and relaxing.
The next day, we met up with P and J, both who are currently working in the city. It was a nice catchup, knowing how each other are doing and rekindle the memories we had in this city exactly 2 years ago.
It was a short, but a worthwhile visit.
