BA & BAFTA Event, 19th Feb 2010

I was lucky to have won two tickets to the British Airways(BA) and British Academy of Film, Theatre and Arts (BAFTA) Event at the Vinopolis, near London Bridge. I've actually just came back a few hours ago. I have invited N to come along, as the event and theme suits him perfectly as an actor. The main treat was to watch any of the 5 nominated BAFTA movies namely 'An Education', 'In the Loop', 'Fish Tank', 'Moon' and 'Nowhere Boy' on a wireless headset provided by the host.

First we were led by an usherer to the entrance where we were warmly received by the BA stewardess and stewards at the reception counter. We left our cloak in the cloak room and were given the wireless headphones. We then left to the open space where we were served delicious canapes which includes scallop, mini vegetarian burger, beef burger, hot dog, candies, pop corns, champagne, coca cola, wine and other alcoholic drinks. There were bars, waiters and waitresses walking around serving the canapes. There were also chairs by the bar, sofas, cushions and lazy cushion chairs for the audiences to just chill out, relax, network and enjoy the films shown on the five screens simultaneously.

We chatted for a while at the bar while savoring the food for an hour or so and headed to the Screen 1 after the official opening of the event for the film 'An Education'.

It was a good movie- the setting and language were perfectly contained with the 1960's feel. The plot is not sophisticated, nonetheless the director never fails to impress me with the moral values and the lessons that it was trying to convey. It was a moving film, even my friend shed some tears. Personally, I feel that the film is one of its kind, definitely different than the normal Hollywood movies. That is what makes it so unique, with its own style. It is classy and simply brilliant.

The movie per se, the cosy atmosphere at the Vinopolis, the BA & BAFTA hospitality plus the good food and the nice company of my friend - Ohh, the whole package was just too good to be true. It was certainly a great way to kick start the weekend. I truly enjoy myself. I reckon my friend did too. Thanks BA & BAFTA for the invitation. It was definitely a privilege for us to be there.
