It was 13th June. B & I were invited to a friend's wedding house party.
Wei was my ex-classmate since Primary One. We have lost touch since more than 10 years ago until she found me in facebook a couple of months ago. We met in London for a drink sometime last year. Then the next thing I know is that she is having a wedding house party and I was invited.
Despite the transportation inconvenience due to the engineering work at the Southern line towards Elmers End, we've managed to reach our destination via the SW train. The route that we took was the following:
Waterloo-Clapham Junction-East Croydon (SW train) and Elmers End (tram)
The total travel time was supposed to be about 30 mins via the direct train. However, considering the waiting time in between stations and some unfortunate mishap on the tickets, we took 1-1.5 hours to reach the destination.
Nonetheless, having arrived safely and most importantly having spend an enjoyable time with nice company and sunny wheather, I could not ask for more. I had a great time chatting with Wei, her colleagues and mum. Additionally. the food - BBQ chicken, lamb, BBQ corn, kebab and tapas were delicious. Not to mention the very rich and yummy deserts exclusively cooked and prepared by the married couple are definitely the 'icing of the cake' . The mouth watering tiramisu, rich appetizing dark chocolate cake and finally the soft creamy light chocolate cake left all of the us- the guests craving for more. I conclude the meal with a very healthy fruit salad with mangoes, kiwis, apples, prunes, etc which nonetheless satisfied our appetite.
One of the highlight of the day was also the international group of people. We had nice chat with the other consultants and their partners. The members of group consist of several nationalities, namely, German, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Scottish, English, Japanese, Malaysian, Uzbekistan and Korean. This diversity has certainly made the conversations even more colourful.
Later, Wei's mum chatted with me in the living room and showed me some of the wedding photos. It was also interesting and touching listening to a mum's opinion in many things about her daughter and life itself.
We concluded the day at about 6pm and we reached home at about 8 plus. On the way back, the journey was shorter, thanks to the fast train from East Croydon to CLJ.
I have enjoyed the day. The day's event is definitely different from the rest of my social events. I looked back 20 years ago. Back then,I could have never ever thought of attending this wedding party at this particular place of this friend of mine. It is really strange how life can turn out unexpectedly. I am glad that I came to her party and to be able to share one of her most important days in her life. Wei, Congratulations! I wish the best for you.
